Data Architecture for Enterprise Agents

All research › Enterprise Agent Architecture

The data architecture that enterprise agents require in order to reason reliably. Each paper treats a separable component of the data layer the model consumes.

What the series argues

An agent reasons over what you put in front of it. Get that wrong and no amount of model quality recovers the answer, because the model is working from the wrong ground.

Four papers treat four separable parts. Dynamic context assembly is the discipline that keeps what the agent sees minimal, grounded and sufficient, and makes sufficiency something you can defend. Semantic layers bridge what a model natively understands and what the domain requires it to understand. The maturity-curve paper explains why retrieval gets easier as semantic layers mature while execution gets harder with every business process added. Governance as middleware argues that governance expressed as information for the model to consider is not governance at all, then shows the architecture that enforces it deterministically.

Each paper stands alone. Read together they describe the data layer an agent needs before it is trusted with anything that matters.

Papers

Listed in reading order.

  1. 01 Dynamic Context Assembly The discipline that keeps an agent's context minimal, grounded, and sufficient, and the data layer that makes sufficiency defensible.
  2. 02 Semantic Layers in Enterprise Agent Systems How semantic layers bridge what a model natively understands and what the domain requires, and the design principles that keep them coherent.
  3. 03 Agentic AI: Navigating and Executing Through Semantic Layers Based on the Organization's Position on the AI Maturity Curve Why navigation gets easier with semantic-layer maturity while execution gets harder with each business process, and the five-stage curve that determines which architecture is right at each point.
  4. 04 Governance as Middleware Why informational governance fails in financial systems, and the middleware architecture that delivers deterministic enforcement and audit-grade certification.
